Cooperative Education/Internships
What is Cooperative Education?
Cooperative Education at UND is an educational program
that enables students to integrate classroom learning with
practical pre-professional experience in their field(s) of
study. Cooperative Education is usually a longer term arrangement
with an employer - often covering several semesters.
Coop is a planned, supervised work/learning paid experience
in which the student performs duties within his/her field
of study. Students' work is closely supervised and job responsibilities
are significant; primary work duties are directly related
to the student's major, homework is assigned, and evaluations
are performed.
Coop requires course registration. Registered coop students
enjoy 'full-time equivalent' status regardless of the number
of credits and pay tuition based on the cost per credit. We
current have over under graduate and graduate 50 majors that
have established coop programs.
What is an Internship?
Internship is also an experiential learning experience very
similar to a coop. However, where coop is always a credit
generating and paid experience, internships often not be paid
and, perhaps, no credit as well. Internship also may have
different length-of-work requirements or be more short term
"project" oriented then a coop.
I am interested in a coop or an internship, how do
I start?
1) Review the Co-op Testimonial
and Co-op
Orientation Power point.
2) Attend a Co-op Orientation
session.
3) Register with Career
Connect system.
4) Start your personnel resume starting with attending the
resume workshop.
5) Make an appointment with a coop coordinator at Career Services.
6) Plan your academic schedule to include the best semesters
for you to coop. Work with your advisor. |
