TIP SHEET
FOR 2008 NORTH DAKOTA EDUCATION CONNECTION
|
| |
Congratulations
on your decision to attend the 2008 Education Connection which will
be held at the Multipurpose gym in the Hyslop Sports Center on the University of North Dakota
Campus, Grand Forks, ND, all day on Friday, April 11. |
|
-
For general information and to view school districts registered for
the North Dakota Education Connection go online to:
www.ndedfair.nodak.edu
|
- If you are pre-registered, a name tag will be waiting for you
at the registration table. At that time, you will receive final information
on the school districts and a map of each school’s table location.
Registration will open at 7:30 a.m.
It is important that you arrive and check in at the registration table
no later than 8 a.m. Interviews will be held from
10:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. Some districts may continue interviews
at their motel on Saturday. Those districts will be identified on
the Lists of Participants.
|
- All interviews will be scheduled by the school district personnel
as you are making your contacts Friday morning during the “open table
session” from 8:30-10:30. REMEMBER:
This is the only time you will have to schedule interviews.
|
- Read your advance information to see what majors each school district
is seeking and make plans to speak with those in which you are most
interested
|
- Be sure to develop an effective resume. Take a good supply with
you to leave with recruiters.
|
- Be appropriately dressed for an interview. Wear your name tag so
it is in plain view. Remember, an opinion
of you is formed in just a few seconds, so look professional!
|
- You must be assertive and speak with as many school
districts as possible. To gain interviews, you must sell yourself
effectively during the “open table” session Friday morning. We do
not guarantee interviews.
|
- When you approach a table, look the recruiter directly in the eye,
introduce yourself with a good firm handshake and present your resume.
Feel confident about yourself and maintain good eye contact as you
communicate with the recruiter.
|
- Be sure you note the name of the school district and the name/title
of its recruiter(s).
|
- Be prepared to answer questions about yourself. Practice how you
will present relevant information to recruiters.
|
- When you have finished your “pre-interview,” be sure to thank the
recruiter. At this time, he/she may schedule a formal interview for
later that day.
|
- Once you have committed to an interview, it
is expected that you will keep that appointment. “No
Shows” are a real problem for recruiters and the sponsoring universities,
and a tracking system will be used to identify those people.
|
- If you are seriously interested in a school district, follow up
with a thank you letter when you get home.
|
- Credential files will not be used at the Fair.
However, you may have your credentials forwarded to a school district
after the Fair. The school districts may also request them.
|
- Parking for the Fair will be in the parking ramp for a fee of $1.50 for the first hour and $1.00 for each additional hour up to a $7.00 maximum. Do
not park in other areas. You will be ticketed.
|
- A list of Grand Forks motels and a map of the city are available
upon request.
